Fab for one; too rich for another

I can’t stop drooling [“Drink It All In,” May 13]. I would kill for some kaiseki. I was born in Japan, and my grandmother had a famous oden restaurant in the Ginza.

I want to go into the health spa business and serve kaiseki and all the other great, healthy, in-season foods that Leslie Brenner and Michalene Busico mentioned.

I’m going to frame your article and put it on the wall. It’s one of the best pieces of writing on Japan I’ve ever seen.

As a well-traveled person in Japan and as an independent traveler, I was revolted at the price you paid for your meals. I suppose your trip over there was to enjoy yourselves at high-end places. I would respectfully state that 95% or more of the readers can’t afford to eat as you ate.

I do wish to commend you for finding a couple of “reasonable” places to eat at and stay.
