Differing views of a transformed Venice bungalow

Share

THE circle of architects who transmogrified the humble old bungalow in Venice [“Modern in Style, Bohemian in Spirit,” Oct. 25] deserves praise for the design.

The Home editors also deserve applause for including a plan view of the design, long a drawback of the typical Home article.

Yet the plan graphic could have been better. It appears that the section lifted a computer drawing directly from the architect without refreshing that file with edits to help the reader navigate. For example, the presentation would have been clearer if the floor level had been identified on the plan, as opposed to being called out in the legend.

YOUR article made me wonder: If the owners had their “hearts set” on a large living space, why didn’t they move to a neighborhood where a large modern building was appropriate? Why enclose a cute 970-square-foot bungalow and build a wall around the property?

Venice is one of the few areas in Los Angeles that has its own character, and it is sad that this character can’t be maintained.
