The Petersen Automotive Museum in L.A. is getting breathing room to expand its collection of hundreds of classic vehicles.

The Board of Supervisors voted to take control of more than 60 county-owned cars and motorcycles gathering dust in the Wilshire Boulevard shrine’s basement vault since the Petersen went private seven years ago.

The Natural History Museum, which is undergoing an extensive renovation, will display some of the county-owned vehicles, lend some to other Southern California museums and sell others.
