Kristin Knauff
Most days Knauff, 26, can be found hosting fashion shows and designer trunk shows at her downtown loft/boutique Apartment 3. When she’s not selling clothes, she’s making them as co-designer of the line three-LA.
STARRY, STARRY NIGHT I’d start Friday evening with a walk around Silver Lake Reservoir with my dog, Thunderbird. If I wasn’t working on Saturday, I’d go to dinner with girlfriends at Cafe Stella in Silver Lake. I like the atmosphere -- really cozy and intimate. I usually just have wine and cheese. After Stella, I’d check out this bar called the Griffin in Atwater Village. I’ve been hearing great things about it. It’s supposed to be really dark and Gothic -- my friend said it looked like something out of Harry Potter. MORNING JOLT Saturday morning I’d sleep in until 10:30. Then I’d go for coffee at Cafe Tropical in Silver Lake. That stuff makes me want to do jumping jacks. I used to drink it before work and my co-workers would always say, “Calm down!” Amazing coffee, and it really gets you going. After that, I’d get brunch with friends at Cliff’s Edge, also in Silver Lake. MUCH KNEADED I’d definitely get a massage by Yuri at Brooks Massage Therapy on Beverly. He does a mix of Swedish and deep tissue. He’s amazing but definitely a hard ass. PLAYING DRESS UP A fun place to go with a bunch of girlfriends is Shareen’s Vintage (near Lincoln Heights). I always associate Shareen’s with a day off because you spend a long time going through stuff and trying things on. I got a super tailored sweater coat there; I get compliments every time I wear it. BOWLED OVER One of my favorite evenings in L.A. is a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. I’ve seen Yo La Tengo, the Decemberists and LCD Soundsystem. Before the show, I’d go to Trader Joe’s or Say Cheese and fill a picnic basket with wine, olives, cheese and bread. DAY TRIPPIN’ On Sunday, I’d plan a day trip to Palm Springs for some thrift store shopping. Palm Springs is great for rich, lounge-lady cocktail dresses and awesome bathing suits. If I want to stay over, I head to the Villa Royale Inn. It’s beautiful, pretty cheap and hardly anybody knows about it.
