Reese Witherspoon wasn’t the only American sweetheart to invade the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards on Nov. 1 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. 1. Surprise guest Julia Roberts flashed her million-dollar smile while presenting Denzel Washington with the Stanley Kubrick Award for Excellence in Film. “Here I am 40, married with three kids, and I am still smitten,” she gushed over her “Pelican Brief” costar. 2. Paul Bettany kicked back with fellow Brit Helen Mirren, left, and his wife, Jennifer Connelly, while 3. Kate Winslet picked up British artist of the year honors from a jazz-hands Witherspoon, who threatened that Winslet’s impression of her had “better not see the light of day!”

Wild, wild time for superfans

At a special screening of “Into the Wild” on Nov. 2 at the Paramount Theater, 4. Winona Ryder geeked out when she saw director Sean Penn. But when 5. Eddie Vedder hopped onstage to perform an acoustic set in the lobby afterward, it was Penn’s turn to play superfan. “I love this man!” he said of the Pearl Jam frontman, who went solo for the film’s soundtrack. Also digging the intimate performance: jazzman Herbie Hancock; the film’s star, Emile Hirsch; and Penn pals Mark Ruffalo and Emilio Estevez.

Daddy, can I paint some more?

Hollywood offspring mingled amid art projects at the Express Yourself event at Santa Monica Airport’s Barker Hangar last Sunday. Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette’s budding jewelry designer, Coco, made a necklace, while 6. Jack Black, with wife Tanya Haden, gave year-old son Samuel an early arts education. 7. Jason Bateman made a cape for his look-alike tot Francesca, and Calista Flockhart’s son, Liam, checked out the petting zoo, also favored by Molly Shannon’s kids. The afternoon, which honored the event’s co-creator, Laurie David, raised more than $1 million for P.S. Arts, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the arts to public schools.

Haunted by their actions

Kevin Connolly donned a Gilligan get-up for a Halloween soiree at Les Deux, while 8. Adam Levine, lending DJ Samantha Ronson a helping hand, stumped partygoers by going to a Maroon 5 bash as Brad Pitt in “Fight Club.” And the woman behind the whiskers? Model 9. Heidi Klum, who hosted her annual holiday affair at Green Door, where guests slurped “Rum’kins” out of hollowed-out pumpkins.
