What’s so green about bidets?

Share

I don’t see how using bidets [“Hottest Seat in Town,” Nov. 15], especially the ones that are all tricked out with sensors and heaters, are greener than using toilet paper. That would mean not only are these high-tech bidets using more water, but they also use electricity, which conventional toilets don’t require.

It seems that the resources use trade-off between a conventional toilet and a bidet are a wash. I acknowledge bidets offer certain comforts that toilet paper cannot match, but in drought-prone Southern California, doesn’t it make more sense to conserve more water and energy?
