My Favorite Weekend: Scott Patterson

Share

SCOTT PATTERSON has a hit on his hands, or at least that’s what critics are saying about “Aliens in America,” a new sitcom airing Mondays on the CW. The single Hollywood Hills resident, who had a long run on “Gilmore Girls” and was memorable as Elaine’s sponge-worthy suitor on a classic “Seinfeld” episode, says the new show is a kick.

“I feel great about it. We have directors who come up [to the Vancouver set] from L.A. and tell us, ‘The buzz in the industry is huge.’ It makes us feel very lucky to be involved in this.”

New movies, old theaters

On a Friday afternoon I’d do something that sounds really simple but would be just great for me: I’d go to a multiplex and see one movie, then after that, I would bounce to another one and then another. I so rarely get a block of time where I’d get to do that, but it would be fun. As for a favorite theater, I love the Cinerama Dome. I love the size of the screen and just the massiveness of the theater; you can get lost in that place. And I like Grauman’s Chinese, just for the classic feeling. Very cool. I don’t really like modern movie theaters.

Walk all over him

On Saturday morning I’d go work off some of my pent-up aggression, shall we say, at the Wild Card boxing gym on Vine Street in Hollywood. I’ve boxed off and on my whole life. Lately I’ve been using it as my main workout, and the Wild Card is a real boxing gym; you could find yourself doing sit-ups next to a world champion.

After that, I’ll go over to Gelson’s and buy a ton of food and go home and make brunch. I have a huge kitchen with a big Viking range, and I’ll invite some people over, and if the weather’s nice, we’ll sit out by the pool. My signature dish is probably teriyaki salmon. I don’t get to see friends all week, so this is my chance to catch up, cook for people and enjoy my house.

After that I’d get my weekly shiatsu massage at an establishment that shall remain nameless near the Beverly Center and have the ladies walk on my back. They actually do it, and it’s the best thing you can do partially clothed. Fantastic.

In the evening, if there’s a fight on HBO, I’ll have the fellas over and have another little soirée. If I was going out with friends, I might head over to Il Sole near Sunset Plaza. I’d order anything with their Bolognese sauce. Afterward, no clubs -- no, no, no. That’s for teenagers. This is the city I work in, and I don’t want to make a mess, if you know what I mean. No, it’s strictly back to the house, bathing suits, Jacuzzi.

Doesn’t hurt to look

On Sunday I’d sleep as late as possible, make a huge breakfast and then read all the newspapers. That’s a perfect morning for me. Later, as happy as I am in my home, I love to go to open houses and see what’s on the market. Then it might be a museum trip to see some great works of art with friends, and back home for some painting.

I like sushi on Sunday evenings, so it would probably be Sushi Nozawa on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City, a very simple place with no music or frills, but the fish is so fresh it melts in your mouth. There’s always a line, but it’s worth it.
