Thin crust with Oreos

Special to The Times

Everyone loves Oreos and everyone loves pizza, but until recently the only people who thought, “Let’s put Oreos on a pizza!” were either pregnant or deluded.

For a limited time, however, this bizarre cookie-pizza combo is available to all. Domino’s is offering a so-called Oreo Dessert Pizza. It’s a thin, round 10-inch pastry crust covered with vanilla cream sauce and crumbled Oreos, which is baked, then topped with some vanilla icing.

Sound good to you? Really?

Domino’s Oreo Pizza

Taste (0 tongues)

It’s not just bad; it’s spectacularly bad. It’s the “Good Luck Chuck” of fast food. Turns out, if you bake an Oreo, it doesn’t get a “fresh from the oven” taste; it just gets dry and crumbly. And the sickly-sweet vanilla sauce can’t mask the flavor-free crust. An abomination to both Oreos and pizza, you’ll long for those strange brownie squares Domino’s rolled out last year. (Long live Fudgems, their weird little mascot!).

Diet watch (3 scales)

Was there anything in the words “Oreo Dessert Pizza” that gave you any hope that this might be nutritious? Well, to be fair, the pizza’s cut into eight slices and each slice has only 120 calories and 4 grams of fat. You can’t gain too much weight since you won’t be tempted to eat more than one slice.

Portability (3 cars)

Domino’s delivers the Oreo pizza in its own cardboard box, keeping it fresh and warm until you taste it. The box also makes disposal of the uneaten portion of your pizza quick and easy.Hype-o-meter (3 exclamation points)

The commercials show people attempting to eat the Oreo pizza and getting chocolaty mustaches and beards. Smart. The Oreo pizza is best if it doesn’t actually go in your mouth. The ads succeed because they’re silly enough to appeal to kids who will no doubt pester their parents, and since this taste “treat” is only $3.99, many will end up ordering one - and only one - for the novelty.
