Glow sticks pose choking hazard
About 1 million pink and orange glow sticks that were made in China and distributed by Dunkin’ Donuts have been recalled because the label fails to warn users that the cap and lanyard can detach, posing a choking hazard. The lanyard also is a strangulation hazard for children. The recalled glow sticks were given away with purchases of doughnuts at Dunkin’ Donuts stores nationwide in September and this month. * Nautilus Inc., maker of StairMaster exercise machines, recalled 68,000 Bowflex Ultimate 2 Home Gyms because fasteners can come loose, allowing parts to separate and possibly hit a user or bystander. For more information, go to www.cpsc.gov.
* About 55,000 skull pails filled with Halloween candy mix, manufactured in China for R.L. Albert & Son, were recalled because paint on the pails contains excessive levels of lead. The recalled product is a white skull-shaped pail with green eyes, nose and teeth. The pails were sold at retail stores nationwide in September and this month. * About 200,000 Cool Clip and Mini Cool Clip bookmarks, made in China and imported by Antioch Publishing, were recalled because paint on the clip of the bookmarks contains excessive levels of lead. The bookmarks were sold at book, card and gift stores nationwide from April 2003 through this month. * About 22,000 Huffy 2007 Howler and Highland bicycles, manufactured in China and distributed by Huffy Corp., were recalled because the bicycle crank could come off and cause the rider to lose control or fall. * About 5,700 Oro disc brakes for bicycles were recalled because the hand lever can separate, causing the brake to fail. * Guidecraft Inc. recalled 5,400 tabletop puppet theaters because they contain paint with excessive levels of lead.
