Tribute to Day

Re “Anthony Day, 74; led Times’ editorial page to prominence,” Sept. 4

We were indeed lucky to have Anthony Day as editor of the editorial pages. In a day when words couldn’t be blasted forth at Internet speed, careful thought was given to each one. I always looked forward to reading each editorial and used them to challenge my views of the world. Regardless of whether I agreed with an editorial or disagreed, it always appeared to me that The Times had good rationale for its positions and that it would publish thoughtful statements of opposing views.

Whenever you find yourself wondering how to approach an issue, ask what Anthony Day would have done.
