A former Fullerton resident has been indicted on charges of engaging in illicit sexual contact with a 10-year-old boy while working as a consultant to the U.S. Agency for International Development in Bangladesh.

William Newton Rudd, 64, lived in Fullerton before moving to Bangladesh in 2003 to work for the agency.

He arrived Wednesday at Los Angeles International Airport after being expelled from the African nation Togo.

Rudd was in Bangladesh working to improve the shrimp industry, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney’s office.

Rudd fled Bangladesh after police executed a search warrant at his hotel.

Rudd is in custody of the U.S. Marshal’s Service at Santa Ana City Jail.
