RESULTS

* Detroit 6, at Minnesota 4: Jair Jurrjens took a no-hitter into the sixth inning in only his fifth major league start, helping the Tigers gain ground in the AL Central, setting up a crucial three-game series against the Indians starting today in Cleveland. Tigers Manager Jim Leyland started Jurrjens so that Kenny Rogers could pitch the opener against the Indians. Jurrjens (3-1) retired 16 of 17 batters -- his one blemish a walk to Brian Buscher -- before giving up two extra-base hits in the sixth.

* Kansas City 4, at Cleveland 3: Billy Buckner earned his first major league win, slowing the Indians’ drive toward a division title. Making his third career start, Buckner took a shutout into the sixth inning before Victor Martinez hit a solo homer with two out.

* Texas 11, at Oakland 9: Michael Young drove in a career-high seven runs, including a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth, in a game featuring a bench-clearing brawl. A’s outfielder Nick Swisher, who hit a home run in each of the first three games of the series, rushed the mound and tackled Texas starter Vicente Padilla after getting hit by a pitch in the first inning.

* Baltimore 8, at Toronto 6 (12 innings): Scott Moore drove in the go-ahead run in the 12th inning. Jason Frasor (1-5), the eighth Toronto pitcher, gave up a single to Aubrey Huff to begin the inning. Freddie Bynum’s ground-rule double moved Huff to third, Paul Bako struck out and, with the infield in, Moore grounded an RBI single off the glove of first baseman Matt Stairs.

* Tampa Bay 9, at Seattle 2: Rookie Delmon Young drove in four runs and Andy Sonnanstine gave up one run in seven innings, dropping the slumping Mariners further off the playoff pace.

* New York 4, at Boston 3: Mariano Rivera retired David Ortiz on a popup with the bases loaded for the final out, and Derek Jeter broke an eighth-inning tie with a three-run homer.

* at Chicago 9, Angels 7: Jim Thome hit a two-run shot, his 500th career homer, in the bottom of the ninth inning.
