Update -- FC Dallas, now with Brazil’s 2002 World Cup-winning midfielder Denilson on its squad, is a couple of victories away from clinching an MLS playoff berth. It is coming off a tough match at home against the Chicago Fire on Thursday night in which former Galaxy standout Carlos Ruiz scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time to earn Coach Steve Morrow’s team a 1-1 tie. It was Ruiz’s seventh goal of the season and the 96th of his five-year MLS career. “He’s always going to get a chance somewhere,” Morrow said. The Guatemalan striker has scored 35 goals for Dallas since being traded by the Galaxy in 2005 in a move that also saw Landon Donovan join Los Angeles. Donovan has scored 37 goals in the same time span. If Galaxy veteran Cobi Jones recovers from a hip injury and plays tonight, it would be the 300th regular-season game of his MLS career. Steve Ralston, Chris Henderson and Jason Kreis are the only other players to reach that mark. Jones also has 45 playoff games, but that total will not be changing. He retires at the end of the season.
