Will these ‘Cavemen’ be left standing upright?

Share

You will be talking about: “Cavemen.” It’s ABC’s new sitcom based on a television commercial for Geico insurance about the daily humiliations of living life as a modern-day caveman. Fulfill your pop culture civic duty and weigh in on whether this crazy idea will work. We’re not calling it either way. We can only assume the pilot was good enough for someone to think that a show based on a commercial was actually a good idea. (Tuesday)

We hear you should talk about: “Pushing Daisies.” While no show this season is receiving the premature hype of last year’s “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,” this new show on ABC has received both buzz and the endorsement of people who have actually seen screeners. It’s about a guy who can bring people back to life by touching them. We like the looks of its hyper-colored world. (We love hyper-color!) (Wednesday)

You could talk about: The Farrelly brothers. They’re back with “The Heartbreak Kid,” a movie starring Ben Stiller as a man who marries a woman on a whim only to discover she’s not the person he thought she was. It does not appeal to us, but years ago we went to see “Shallow Hal” with the express purpose of hating it and found ourselves deeply moved. . . as well as engaged in screaming fights with people (you know who you are) who disagreed with us. A lot of people will talk about: Bruce Springsteen’s “Magic.” The last time he put out a new album we were working in New York and were frequently subjected to long discourses by a co-worker on how attending a Springsteen concert was the ultimate cure for working in the city’s wealth-obsessed media. We contemplated buying a $100-plus ticket to a show, but ultimately decided we didn’t want to jump on that very full bandwagon. But for those of you who got in early (or are less self-conscious about that stuff), the New Jersey bard releases a new album (see review, Page F14) this week. (Tuesday)

And why not talk about: Will the dog whisperer start whispering to us? Cesar Millan, best known as the dog whisperer from the television show of the same name, puts out his second book this week, titled “Be the Pack Leader: Use Cesar’s Way to Transform Your Dog . . . and Your Life.” The book is mostly about how to be in control of your canine friend, but according to the publisher’s blurb, it will also “help you become a better pack leader in every area of your life, improving your relationships with friends, family, and co-workers.” If only one could hire Millan to work with disagreeable neighbors, wouldn’t we all be happier?
