* Chicago 13, at Detroit 2: Nick Swisher homered on the game’s second pitch, Carlos Quentin had four RBIs and the White Sox handed the Tigers their sixth straight loss. The Tigers are off to their worst start since going 0-9 at the beginning of 2003, when they lost an AL-record 119 games.

* at New York 2, Tampa Bay 0: Chien-Ming Wang pitched four-hit ball into the seventh inning and Hideki Matsui hit a two-run homer for the Yankees.

* at Toronto 7, Boston 4: Frank Thomas hit his 11th grand slam, Vernon Wells hit a two-run homer and the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep of the World Series champions.

* at Baltimore 3, Seattle 2: Luis Hernandez singled in the winning run with two out in the bottom of the ninth inning, capping a three-run rally for the Orioles. The Mariners wasted a solid effort by Felix Hernandez, who gave up five hits and left with a 2-0 lead.

* Kansas City 3, at Minnesota 1: Brett Tomko pitched five shutout innings, Alex Gordon hit a two-run single that put Kansas City ahead in the second inning, and the Royals finished their opening trip to Detroit and Minnesota 4-2, their best start since 2004.

* Cleveland 2, at Oakland 1: Cliff Lee won his first start of the season, retiring 10 of the last 12 batters he faced to help stop the Indians’ three-game losing streak.

* Texas 10, at Angels 4: Gerald Laird had four hits, homered twice and drove in six runs for the Rangers.
