* Oakland 9, at Cleveland 7: C.C. Sabathia gave up nine runs and 12 hits in his shortest outing in nearly two years. He was pulled after 3 1/3 innings. It was his shortest start since yielding nine runs in 2 1/3 innings to the Chicago Cubs on June 21, 2006.

* New York 4, at Boston 1: Chien-Ming Wang (3-0) gave up only a home run to J.D. Drew that was nearly caught and a bunt single by Coco Crisp in stopping the Red Sox.

* Detroit 5, at Chicago 2: The Tigers won despite losing Dontrelle Willis after he made only 14 pitches in the first inning. He slipped as he delivered a pitch and hyper-extended his right knee.

* at Tampa Bay 10, Baltimore 5: Carlos Pena homered twice and drew a bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning to finish with six RBIs.

* Toronto 8, at Texas 5: The Rangers, trying to go two games over .500 for the first time since they were 78-76 on Sept. 22, 2006, fell back to the break-even mark.

* Minnesota 5, at Kansas City 0: The Royals, one for eight with runners in scoring position, loaded the bases in the fifth with one out, but Livan Hernandez struck out Jose Guillen and retired Billy Butler on a grounder to third.

* at Seattle 8, Angels 5: Raul Ibanez hit two homers and the Mariners roughed up Jered Weaver.
