In living color
“I DON’T believe in reincarnation, but if I did, I think I must have lived in the 1920s,” says Jim DeMeo, who recently opened the period furniture gallery Casa DeMeo in Silver Lake. Living in a 1931 hacienda nearby, he has a special affection for Mexican colonial and Spanish Revival, but he also deals in Art Nouveau, Deco and Arts and Crafts designs. “I’m celebrating the color, exuberance and romance of this city circa 1900 to 1940,” says DeMeo, shown here on a 1930s leather club-style love seat ($3,200) next to a Monterey-style table inlaid with Taylor tiles depicting parrots ($2,200). It’s time to look back
An international array of midcentury furniture by masters such as Jacques Adnet, Piero Fornasetti, T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings and Edward Wormley is being reduced by up to 80% at Emmerson Troop through Aug. 9. The sale also includes period reproduction pieces, hefty tables cut from French industrial water tanks and Blenko glass.
