Firefighter hurt at training exercise
A city firefighter was burned on his face and arms Thursday morning while using a power saw at a training exercise, authorities said.
The firefighter was using a rotary saw to cut through metal bars on a vacant single-family house under demolition when a loose fuel cap caused fuel to spill and ignited, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Cecil Manresa.
The incident occurred about 9 a.m. in the 400 block of East 52nd Street and left the firefighter with burns on 5% of his body. Paramedics took him to a hospital, and he is expected to fully recover.
