Oakland 4, at Detroit 2: Brad Ziegler tied the club record for consecutive scoreless innings and the A’s ended their 10-game losing streak. Ziegler pitched the eighth and ninth innings for his first save. He extended his scoreless streak to 37 consecutive innings to tie Mike Torrez’s club record, set in 1976.
at Baltimore 9, Texas 1: Jeremy Guthrie yielded one run in seven innings to win his third consecutive start. He is 3-0 with a 1.21 earned-run average in those starts.
Cleveland 5, at Toronto 2: Anthony Reyes won his debut with the Indians. Acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in a July 26 trade, he yielded one run and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.
Minnesota 4, at Kansas City 1: The Twins took advantage of eight walks and Kevin Slowey did not walk a batter in 5 2/3 innings. It was the 16th time in 29 starts that he has not given up a walk.
Tampa Bay 5, at Seattle 3: The Rays increased their lead in the East Division to 3 1/2 games. Their lead over second-place Boston is the largest since July 7. They played without third baseman Evan Longoria, the club leader in home runs and RBIs, who has a bruised hand.
at Chicago 5, Boston 3: Mark Buehrle took a shutout into the eighth inning. Carlos Quentin led off the bottom half of the inning with his league-leading 31st homer.
at Angels 10, New York 5: The Yankees played their first game in Anaheim with someone other than Joe Torre as their manager since Aug. 20, 1995.
