* at Chicago 15, Seattle 3: Ken Griffey Jr. hit one of the White Sox’s four homers to move into a tie with Sammy Sosa for fifth on the career list. Alexei Ramirez and A.J. Pierzynski each hit a three-run homer for Chicago, which has won eight of nine, and the White Sox’s Nick Swisher homered for the third straight game.

* at Minnesota 3, Oakland 1: Mike Redmond drove in two runs for the Twins, who survived some wildness by starting pitcher Francisco Liriano. It was the Athletics’ 11th straight series defeat.

* at Cleveland 8, Kansas City 5: The Indians’ first four hits were homers, including two by Kelly Shoppach, as they won for the ninth time in 12 games. The Royals have lost 11 of 13.

* New York 5, at Toronto 1: The Yankees’ Derek Jeter hit a two-run home run and Andy Pettitte pitched seven strong innings to end a four-start winless streak.
