Marine held after 2-year absence
A 23-year-old lance corporal, arrested in November after being missing for more than two years, has been charged with unauthorized absence, which could bring a sentence of a year in the brig and a bad-conduct discharge, the Marine Corps announced Friday.
Lance Hering is charged with a single count of Article 86, unauthorized absence of more than 30 days that ended in an arrest. The case has been referred to court-martial.
Hering, an Iraq veteran, disappeared in August 2006. He was arrested in Port Angeles, Wash., on Nov. 16 and is now in the brig at Camp Pendleton.
