at Weber State 70, UC Santa Barbara 63: Steve Panos scored a career-high 21 points as the Wildcats (5-4) won their third straight game. Daviin Davis and Nick Hansen added 13 points apiece, while Kellen McCoy finished with 12. Weber State went on an 11-1 run near the end of the first half and went into the break with a 37-29 lead. Chris Devine made consecutive jumpers for the Gauchos (5-5) to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 65-60 with 1:34 remaining, and then converted on a three-point play to bring Santa Barbara to within 67-63 with 34 seconds left. But McCoy made three free throws in the final 32 seconds to seal the win.

WOMEN

UCLA 82, at Rice 64: The Bruins scored the first 20 points of the game and kept Rice off the scoreboard for nearly eight minutes to start the game. UCLA (8-1) kept Rice (3-4) scoreless until the 12:14 mark, when Morgan Mayse made one free throw after the Bruins had scored 20 points and forced 10 turnovers. The Bruins increased their advantage in the second half to as many as 23 points with 8:24 remaining. The Bruins are off to their best start in 28 years.
