When shopping turns dangerous
Christmas shoppers were evacuated from a sporting goods store Tuesday after several bullets fell on an escalator and a round went off.
The Charlotte Observer reported that a customer who bought the .22-caliber bullets accidentally dropped them. Charlotte, N.C., police spokesman Bob Fey said one bullet was compressed by the escalator and exploded. Officials searched to be sure no other bullets were lodged in the escalator before allowing the store to reopen.
No one was hurt, but holiday shopping was delayed about an hour.
