Agents conduct immigration raid

Share

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents swept through an ink-cartridge manufacturing plant in Van Nuys on Thursday in search of undocumented workers, authorities said.

Agents raided Micro Solutions Enterprises in the 8200 block of Woodley Avenue about 3:30 p.m., half an hour after workers arrived for the evening shift, said ICE spokeswoman Virginia Kice.

Criminal warrants were served against current and former workers for charges of providing fraudulent employment information, Kice said. Agents also will check the legal status of workers at the plant, she said.

The raid comes as ICE has stepped up work site enforcement across the country.

Immigrant advocates denounced the raid.

“This is ridiculous. We’re terrorizing these folks,” said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, which was contacted by the Department of Homeland Security in advance of the raid so that it could work with affected families.
