NOT TOO YOUNG TO LOOK BACK

Retrospectives are usually the province of filmmakers in their 50s, but director David Gordon Green, 31, is the subject of a three-day fete at the American Cinematheque’s Egyptian Theatre. “The showcase makes me feel old,” Green says from his New Orleans home, “and quite excited. . . . I’m not usually one for looking back, but it’ll be great to see these projected in all their 35-mm glory.” Praised for reworking Southern Gothic into naturalistic dramas, Green uses improv to draw out poetically idiosyncratic performances from young actors such as Jamie Bell (far right, with Devon Alan) in “Undertow” or his friend Paul Schneider in “All the Real Girls.” His latest (and first film set in the North), “Snow Angels,” has its L.A. premiere Feb. 28.
