Worker gets cash award over bias

A 26-year county public health worker was awarded a $375,000 settlement Tuesday after alleging she was consistently discriminated against because she was Jewish and a woman.
Rochelle Abramovitz sued the county in 2005 after she said she was punished for speaking out at a department meeting regarding the lack of promotions awarded to women, according to court records. Abramovitz alleged in the complaint that she was transferred to a field office 72 miles away from her home shortly after she made the comment.
Supervisors approved the settlement payout Tuesday and Abramovitz will retire from the county in 30 days, said her attorney J. Bernard Alexander.
