Inmates evacuated after jailhouse fire

From the Associated Press

Authorities had to evacuate 40 inmates from Merced County’s main jail over the weekend after discovering two flaming trash cans in a cellblock that houses felony inmates.

Sheriff Mark Pazin said all of the inmates were back in jail but that they will be placed on lockdown for the next month until authorities find out who started the fire late Saturday night.

While the inmates are on lockdown, they cannot receive visitors or go to the commissary.
