Donovan Morris scored 19 points for Long Beach State (3-9).

“I told the guys before the game that they’re known for being a good shooting team,” said Long Beach State Coach Dan Monson. “But, I thought that they were underrated defensively. They sped us up way too fast in the first half.”

CS Northridge 80, Cal Poly SLO 59 -- Forward Jonathan Heard led a quartet of double-digit scorers with 17 points as the Matadors won the Big West opener at San Luis Obispo.

The win, Northridge’s largest against Cal Poly on the road, improved the Matadors’ overall record to 9-3. Cal Poly is 5-8.
