Jury says Dodgers not liable in fight

A Dodgers fan who was beaten in the club’s parking lot after a San Francisco Giants game deserves $440,000 from her assailant, but the ballclub is not responsible for her injuries, a jury has ruled.

Marta Parra Helenius needs to collect from the fan who hit her, Denis Ordaz, jurors decided Friday. Ordaz, however, said she has no money.

Dodgers officials viewed the verdict as an endorsement of the stadium’s security policy.

Helenius, 31, who suffered permanent loss of sight in one eye when Ordaz punched her in the parking lot, said the team should have done more to protect her. She testified that during the game Ordaz was profane and insulting to her and her party. When she complained, Dodger security moved Ordaz and her group about 40 feet away -- not far enough, Helenius said.

Ordaz, 27, followed her into the parking lot after the game and punched her. Ordaz pleaded no contest to criminal charges in the case, served 27 days in jail and was ordered to pay restitution but has not.
