After looking into two coaching jobs, Jason Garrett decided to remain offensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.

Garrett went through second interviews in Baltimore and Atlanta this week, then returned to Dallas to meet with team owner Jerry Jones.

Jones, who hired Garrett last year before hiring Coach Wade Phillips, apparently convinced him his future was just as bright with the Cowboys, who are coming off a 13-3 regular season with eight of his offensive players going to the Pro Bowl.

Garrett held a news conference to discuss his decision to stay, which included a promotion to assistant head coach and, presumably, a raise, perhaps approaching Phillips’ $3 million per season.

The San Diego Chargers are slowly getting back their injured players ahead of the AFC championship game Sunday against the undefeated New England Patriots.

Although quarterback Philip Rivers sat out for the second straight day with a sprained right knee, two-time rushing champion LaDainian Tomlinson returned to practice after sitting out Wednesday to rest his hyper-extended left knee.

Also sitting out were tight end Antonio Gates (toe) and defensive tackle Jamal Williams (ankle).

The Tennessee Titans hired Denver Broncos assistant Mike Heimerdinger as offensive coordinator, his second stint with the team after spending the last two seasons in Denver.

The Seattle Seahawks announced running back Shaun Alexander had surgery this week to mend the left wrist the 2005 league MVP broke in Week 1. Alexander wore a cast and heard boos during his least productive season since 2001, but the Seahawks expect him to be healthy for next season.

A son of Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid, already in jail on a road rage charge, pleaded guilty at Norristown, Pa., to DUI and drug charges stemming from a separate incident. Britt Reid was charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and drug possession after he drove into a shopping cart in a parking lot in August.

No sentencing date has been set.

The NFL will return to Britain next season.

The league, which held its first regular season game outside North America in London in October, said it would come back in 2008.
