* at New York 5, Boston 4 (10 innings): Rookie Brett Gardner singled home the winning run against Jonathan Papelbon with two out, and the Yankees earned a split of the four-game series. New York’s Alex Rodriguez hit his 536th homer, tying Yankees Hall of Fame member Mickey Mantle for 13th on the career list.

* Texas 11, at Baltimore 10: David Murphy hit a three-run home run and Ian Kinsler had three singles to extend his hitting streak to 18 games, leading the Rangers. Murphy’s fourth-inning shot, which followed a two-out intentional walk to Milton Bradley, gave Texas the lead for good.

* at Tampa Bay 9, Kansas City 2: Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer during a four-run third inning, and James Shields (7-5) gave up two runs and four hits over seven innings to win his third consecutive start. Esteban German drove in the Royals’ runs.

* at Chicago 4, Oakland 3: John Danks set a career high with nine strikeouts for the White Sox, who have won 10 of 13 games. Danks (6-4) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the White Sox salvaged a four-game split after losing the first two games.

* at Minnesota 4, Cleveland 3: Carlos Gomez capped a three-run seventh inning against All-Star Cliff Lee with a run-scoring groundout, and the Twins handed the Indians their eighth loss in a row. Lee (11-2) lost for the first time in nine starts.

* Detroit 2, at Seattle 1 (15 innings): The Mariners used backup catcher Jamie Burke as a pitcher in the 15th inning and the Tigers took advantage, scoring the go-ahead run on Marcus Thames’ sacrifice fly. Miguel Cabrera doubled to center field to lead off the inning and was replaced by pinch-runner Michael Hollimon, who moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored.

* at Angels 7, Toronto 1: Jon Garland (8-5) pitched a six-hitter for his 100th major league victory, Jeff Mathis tied a career high with three runs batted in and Juan Rivera homered for the Angels.
