Girl abducted in 1996 is found safe
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Friday that a multi-agency law enforcement team had found a 12-year-old girl who was abducted soon after her birth in 1996 and arrested her mother, who had fled with the child after a dispute with the girl’s father.
Since the abduction, the Inland Regional Apprehension Team -- consisting of members from the FBI, Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, San Bernardino Police Department and Riverside Police Department -- had followed up on multiple leads, authorities said.
After new information recently surfaced, the agencies found Tanya Yahaun Davis and her daughter in Fontana. Authorities said the child was in good condition.
Since their disappearance, Davis and her daughter had lived on the East Coast and in the Midwest, authorities said, adding that she had home-schooled the child in order to keep her identity hidden from the public.
