Lawmakers laud the Douglases

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors honored Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, with a lifetime achievement award for community service Tuesday for the $8 million they donated to refurbish 400 elementary school playgrounds throughout the county.
The 91-year-old actor and his wife received a standing ovation from lawmakers and the audience at the supervisors’ meeting.
“When you get older, you feel obligated to think of other people and to help them,” Kirk Douglas said.
