Unclean art, an introduction

I loved Suzanne Muchnic’s piece on L.A. artist Paul McCarthy [“This Is How He Grew to Be Unclean,” Feb. 24]. It felt engaged and yet expansive. I thought it provided a way into his work, which is often initially scary, without dumbing down or diminishing its impact.
