Personally, we prefer the naughty, Kevin Costner-starring 1988 baseball flick, “Bull Durham,” but it was the 1989 Costner vehicle “Field of Dreams,” being shown Monday by AFI at the ArcLight Sherman Oaks, that captured audiences’ hearts and several Oscar nominations. Adapted from the novel by W.P. Kinsella and directed by Phil Alden Robinson, the nostalgic fantasy centers on an Iowa farmer (Costner, left, with Amy Madigan and Dwier Brown) who hears a voice say, “If you build it, he will come.” (afi.com). . . . Talk about colorful language: On Wednesday, Hollywood Heritage President Marc Wanamaker explores Glorious Technicolor and competing color processes through photos. A camera from 1939’s “Gone With the Wind,” the first Technicolor production to win the best film Oscar, will also be on display (hollywoodheritage.org). . . . Though gay groups condemned William Friedkin’s “Cruising” in 1980, the thriller -- starring Al Pacino as a New York cop who goes undercover in the leather bar scene to nab a serial killer -- has gained respect over the years. The film screens at the Egyptian Theatre as part of its Outfest Wednesday series (outfest.org).
