Escaped suspect rearrested
A woman who sneaked out of a Santa Ana hospital -- while under arrest and being treated for injuries suffered in an auto collision that ended a police pursuit -- was rearrested Wednesday in San Gabriel.
Xana Diolinda Marks was arrested at 1:30 p.m. at a house in the 6900 block of North Muscatel Street, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jim Amormino said. In addition to charges stemming from the chase and accident, Amormino said, Marks is also a suspect in a burglary at a San Juan Capistrano home Monday morning.
Also taken into custody was a parolee wanted by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Amormino said. A .45-caliber handgun was also recovered, he said.
Authorities said Marks, 23, walked out of Western Medical Center-Santa Ana at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, while she was supposed to have been guarded by a California Highway Patrol officer. The CHP had arrested her Monday afternoon after a pursuit in Tustin.
Marks of Chino is suspected of driving a stolen Nissan Pathfinder. The SUV slowed at a red light, a CHP spokeswoman said, when the driver crossed over into opposing traffic, hitting two vehicles.
The Nissan overturned and Marks scrambled out, the CHP said. Marks started to run but was apprehended by a CHP officer and arrested, according to a CHP account.
She and three other people injured in the collisions were taken to hospitals with minor or moderate injuries.
