Share

At the L.A. Conservation Corps luncheon on March 19, 1. Jake Gyllenhaal supplied the “Aw!” factor when he showed up -- on crutches, no less -- to surprise scholarship recipient Oscar Mejia, who helped him research his upcoming role in “Brothers.” During Mejia’s speech, the formerly at-risk 20-year-old revealed his dream to work in Sacramento someday. Hint, hint, Maria! The ever-obliging 2. Governator’s wife, Maria Shriver, offered to put in a good word. The rest of the scholars hopped onstage at the Los Angeles Historic Park as their names were read by Wilmer Valderrama and 3. Xzibit, who arrived early and stayed late to sign autographs and pose for photos with the amped-up kids. The luncheon raised $750,000 for the largest nonprofit youth corps in the nation, which emphasizes projects that benefit the community.

Going the distance

At the “Run, Fat Boy, Run” premiere Monday, 4. Thandie Newton was tickled pink, thanks to more than her ruffled magenta dress. Costar Simon Pegg cracked her up, as did first-time feature film director 5. David Schwimmer. That is, when he wasn’t busy eyeing his date, Zoe Buckman. After the romantic comedy, guests, including John Krasinski and “Flight of the Conchords’ ” Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement, hobnobbed on the patio at Les Deux.

‘Hammer’ time

Who’s desperate for votes? “Dancing with the Stars’ ” Adam Carolla! But 7. Sarah Silverman left the campaigning to boyfriend 8. Jimmy Kimmel (with Adam’s wife, Lynette) at the premiere of “The Hammer” on March 19. After Adam Carolla took 9. Julianne Hough for a spin, the film’s star kicked back at the after-party, where tool-inspired Stoli drinks included the Belt Sander and the Hammer.
