Professor taught religion, ethics
George E. Saint-Laurent, 75, a popular lecturer on spirituality and ethics who taught religion for 28 years at Cal State Fullerton, died April 24 after a massive stroke at a nursing home in Lake Forest. He was a resident of Laguna Woods.
A former priest, Saint-Laurent was born in Boston and earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy in 1955 and a master’s in religion in 1956 at St. Paul’s College in Washington, D.C. In 1968, he earned a doctorate in sacred theology at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He joined the Cal State Fullerton faculty in 1975 and taught comparative religion, as well as linguistics and Greek.
He lectured widely, focusing on the spiritual foundations of success, especially on ethical leadership in the business world and how to balance the need for profit with moral concerns. He also gave seminars in Roman Catholic adult religious programs.
He was the author of several books, including “Spirituality and World Religions: A Comparative Study” (2000) and “Catholic Spirituality in Focus” (2007).
