Star illuminates library challenges

Re “When you read,” Opinion, May 15
Brava, Julie Andrews! In our celebrity-obsessed culture, more stars of Andrews’ stature must be encouraged to weigh in on the side of our library system. Big-name clout may be what is needed to prevent its evisceration, and it wouldn’t hurt if that same red-carpet power did some fundraising as well.
For so many people, the library is a home away from home, nurturing the minds, hearts and souls of generations of Angelenos, giving us access to inspiration as well as information, transporting us to previously unknown worlds. We cannot afford to lose the wonders of a well-stocked library.
