On location, where all MADness breaks loose

For the last 13 years, Fox’s late-night comedy series “MADtv” has developed a loyal following thanks to its irreverent, take-no-prisoners sketches and parodies from a crackerjack cast of crackups including Michael McDonald and Bobby Lee. Though the home base for the Emmy Award-winning show, which had its season finale Saturday, is the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, photographer David Strick discovered that many of those wild and crazy sketches are shot on location throughout the Southland. On March 27, he ventured to Calamigos Ranch in Malibu to capture a parody of Snoop Dogg (Keegan-Michael Key) rapping tax advice, as well as a fashion makeover spoof in which a man is kidnapped and tortured for his style. Strick went “MAD” again on April 4 in a park in Hollywood as the cast filmed a “Sesame Street” parody featuring Big Bird, some overgrown kids and a crack dealer. A week later, the photographer traveled to an airport in Sun Valley for a segment, which finds demented mannequins -- Neil Patrick Harris played one -- murdering humans much to the chagrin of incompetent police officers.
