Warm, moist air from the central Pacific Ocean pushed in showers and thunderstorms across Southern California on Saturday, leaving parts of Ventura County with more than an inch of rain and downtown Los Angeles with just a fraction of an inch.

“It’s not widespread, continuous rain. It’s just little showers popping up here and there,” said Stefanie Sullivan, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in San Diego.

Claps of thunder were heard around downtown Los Angeles in the afternoon.

Malibu got 0.12 of an inch of rain; Chatsworth, 0.22; and Newhall, 0.48. Nearly an inch fell in Oxnard while Fillmore got 1.14 inches.

The National Weather Service issued flash-flood warnings in eastern Ventura County and the San Fernando Valley, which were affected by the Sesnon fire last month.

A lightning fire in a clump of palm trees spread to a Chatsworth home but was quickly brought under control, said Capt. Alan Barrios of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A traffic collision Saturday afternoon on the 101 Freeway in Woodland Hills caused 20 to 30 gallons of oil to spill on the roadway, which was spread by falling rainwater.

Meteorologists forecast mostly cloudy weather today, with a 30% chance of showers.

Los Angeles County health officials cautioned beachgoers to be careful about swimming, surfing and playing around storm drains, creeks and rivers because of bacteria, trash and other public health hazards washed downstream.
