Police make city safer

Re “Deal near in May Day melee,” Nov. 20
Our police officers are human and do make mistakes at times. But it’s unfortunate that their mistakes get bigger headlines than their heroics.
Los Angeles Police Department officers helped during the Sylmar fires. They protected gays when they marched to protest Proposition 8. Police helped remove bodies from the horrific train wreck in Chatsworth. They also made sure on election day that things went smoothly.
Let’s remember that crime rates are at a historic low, in part because LAPD officers go above and beyond to make this city safer. They deserve more credit.
