No sense of responsibility

Re “Wong gets 5 years for corruption,” Oct. 11

It is easy to see how former Los Angeles city commissioner Leland Wong went astray, with supporters like those quoted in The Times.

His attorney says Wong has “given his all to the community.” Well, apparently not. Some of it went offshore. Maybe Wong should start by giving that back.

Former commissioner Ronald Low apparently thinks graft and corruption is nothing more than an accounting problem when he states that Wong “has given more than he has taken” and that his impact on the community was positive. I am not sure how Low does his accounting. How does he calculate the loss of faith that so many put into Wong and the impact it has on others who conscientiously work as commissioners? Does he factor in the costs of prosecution?

Wong’s supporters never seem to admit he did anything wrong after being convicted on not one, not two, but 14 counts. Maybe not being able to see the difference between right and wrong is what got Wong into the situation he is in now.
