Abusive relative gets 126 years
An Orange County man was sentenced Friday to 126 years in prison for physically and sexually abusing a female relative for nearly a decade, beginning when she was 7 years old.
Robert Butterfield, 40, was convicted by a jury in July of 18 felonies after a trial in Orange County Superior Court. Prosecutors said Butterfield, a sometimes homeless man who is 6 feet 5 and weighs about 275 pounds, repeatedly beat and sexually assaulted the girl until she was 16.
Butterfield was arrested in 2005 when a police officer on patrol saw him attacking the girl through the window of a Costa Mesa motel.
