More than 60 short films and documentaries from around the country concerning African Americans will be featured this weekend during the 15th annual African American Film Marketplace and S.E. Manley Short Film Showcase at Hollywood’s Raleigh Studios.

The three-day festival will include the West Coast premiere of “Larry the Actor,” a documentary about the difficulties facing a black actor in Hollywood. Seminars and panels offering advice by professionals to aspiring filmmakers are also scheduled.

The event kicks off today with a reception at Paramount Studios honoring several African Americans from the creative community, including actor William Allen Young, publisher Regina Jones and director of photography Joseph “Joe” Wilcots.
