Thank you for the feature about immigrant students at prestigious private institutions.

I am saddened that all kids can’t get the same experience. My wife and I decided early on that we would sacrifice to give our daughters good secondary educations. One daughter is a recent graduate from Harvard-Westlake and is now attending Spelman College in Atlanta, and the other is now attending the Winward School.

These girls are no different from any other African American girls -- except that they have had the opportunity to have an enriched learning experience. Every child should, whether he or she lives in Crenshaw, East L.A. or Beverly Hills.

The truly sad part is that not every parent tries to get their child this golden opportunity by demanding more from neighborhood schools or enrolling in the private-school arena.
