Other deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Afghanistan and Iraq:

Carlo E. Alfonso, 23, of Spokane, Wash.; specialist, Army. Alfonso was killed Aug. 26 when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb in northeastern Baghdad’s Sadr City neighborhood. He was assigned to the 40th Engineer Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division in Baumholder, Germany.

Jorge L. Feliz Nieve, 26, of Queens Village, N.Y.; specialist, Army. Feliz Nieve was killed Aug. 28 in a vehicle incident in Mosul, Iraq, north of Baghdad. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Steven J. Fitzmorris, 26, of Columbia, Mo.; specialist, Army. Fitzmorris was killed Aug. 25 when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire while on foot patrol in north Baghdad’s Adhamiya neighborhood. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Joshua Harris, 36, of Lexington, N.C.; petty officer first class, Navy. Harris drowned Aug. 30 while attempting to cross a turbulent river during a combat mission in Afghanistan. The Navy SEAL was temporarily forward-deployed from his assignment at the Naval Special Warfare Development Group in Dam Neck, Va.

Patrick W. May, 22, of Jamestown, N.Y.; private first class, Army. May died of noncombat-related injuries Tuesday in Baghdad. He was assigned to the Division Special Troops Battalion, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Gregory A. Rodriguez, 35, of Weidman, Mich.; sergeant first class, Army. Rodriguez was killed Tuesday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in Ana Kalay in southern Afghanistan’s Oruzgan province. He was assigned to the K-9 unit of the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th MP Brigade in Ansbach, Germany.
