* Toronto 3-8, at Chicago 1-2: Home runs by Marco Scutaro, Scott Rolen and Vernon Wells in the second game helped the Blue Jays sweep a day-night doubleheader and extend their winning streak to 10 games. The White Sox, whose AL Central lead over Minnesota was cut to one game, had only one hit in seven innings against A.J. Burnett (17-10) in the opener.

* at Minnesota 7, Kansas City 2: Denard Span had three hits and Justin Morneau homered for the Twins, who gained 1 1/2 games on first-place Chicago in the AL Central. Nick Blackburn (10-8) gave up two runs and five hits in seven innings.

* Tampa Bay 5, at Boston 4: Jonathan Papelbon (5-4) blew a save opportunity for the fifth time this season, as pinch-hitter Dan Johnson homered in the ninth inning to tie it, and Dioner Navarro doubled in the go-ahead run. Troy Percival pitched the ninth for his 28th save.

* Oakland 3, at Detroit 2: Emil Brown’s sacrifice fly capped a two-run eighth inning for the A’s. Rajai Davis had two triples for Oakland, which has won three of four.

* Cleveland 6, at Baltimore 1: Jeremy Sowers (3-8) pitched eight innings of four-hit ball, giving up one run, striking out seven and walking one.

* Texas 7, at Seattle 3: Marlon Byrd and Taylor Teagarden each drove in three runs as the Rangers kept the Angels’ magic number for clinching the AL West at two.

* New York 7, at Angels 1: Johnny Damon homered twice and Alex Rodriguez hit a three-run shot.
