Galaxy’s winless skid at a dozen

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Josh Wolff and Davy Arnaud scored less than two minutes apart in the second half as the Kansas City Wizards extended the Galaxy’s winless streak to 12 games with a 2-0 win Saturday night.

The big draw was supposed to be David Beckham, back after a week playing in World Cup qualifiers for England.

Beckham wasn’t much of a factor and Los Angeles didn’t generate many chances on offense, keeping Bruce Arena winless in four games as coach. The Galaxy’s streak matches the 1999 MetroStars for the fourth-longest in MLS history, six behind Real Salt Lake’s 2006 record.

Kansas City hadn’t been playing much better, winning one of its last eight games, including a 3-1 loss to Houston last Sunday. The Wizards also hadn’t beaten the Galaxy in six meetings since a 2-1 victory on Oct. 16, 2004.

After a slow start, Kansas City came out more aggressively in the second half, leading to a 67th-minute goal by Wolff.

Taking a feed from Herculez Gomez, who joined Kansas City on Wednesday in a trade with Colorado, Wolff flicked in a nifty back-heel redirect past a diving Josh Wicks for his second goal.

Arnaud made it 2-0 in the 69th minute with his third goal in three games.

Wizards goalie Kevin Hartman made two saves for his eighth shutout.

Beckham had a 70-yard goal the last time these teams met, scoring into an empty net in the Galaxy’s 3-1 win on May 24. He wasn’t much of a factor in this one, drawing boos from the crowd in the first half when he sent a 30-yard free kick about 10 feet over the crossbar.
