At least three earthquakes shook a portion of northern Orange County on Thursday. No damage or injuries were reported, authorities said.

The first, a magnitude 3.8 earthquake, occurred about 5 p.m. and was centered about two miles northeast of Yorba Linda, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Then, about 8:30, two more quakes -- magnitudes 4.0 and 3.0, respectively -- rattled the same area near Yorba Linda. They also were centered about two miles northeast of the city.

Seismologist Lucy Jones at the Geological Survey office in Pasadena said the smaller quake was an aftershock of the 4.0.

“Each earthquake makes another earthquake more likely,” she said.
